Architectural & Structural Design
Buildings that are elegant on the drawing board and sound in the ground — designed to Kenyan codes from the first sketch.
Overview
What our architectural & structural design service covers
We take a project from initial concept through to the stamped drawings your contractor builds from. Architectural intent and structural reality are developed together rather than in sequence, so the form you approve is the form that can actually be built to budget.
Our structural work covers reinforced concrete and structural steel for residential, commercial, and mixed-use buildings. Every design is prepared for compliance with Kenyan building codes and the approval requirements of the relevant county authority.
Why engage us
Five reasons clients bring architectural & structural design to TopHall
Design and structure developed together
Architectural and structural engineers work on the same model from the outset, which avoids the late redesign that happens when a form is drawn first and engineered afterwards.
Built for Kenyan code compliance
Drawings are prepared against Kenyan building regulations and county approval requirements, so submissions are not returned for fundamental structural revisions.
Material efficiency as a design input
Reinforcement and section sizing are optimised during design rather than value-engineered after tender, which is where cost is genuinely controlled.
Sustainable design by default
Orientation, natural ventilation, daylighting, and material selection are considered as standard, supporting lower running costs over the building's life.
Drawings a contractor can build from
You receive a coordinated drawing set with the detail level contractors need to price and construct accurately, reducing costly requests for information on site.
How it works
Our process
Each stage has a defined output, so you always know what you are receiving and what happens next.
- Step 01
Brief & site appraisal
We establish your requirements, budget envelope, and the site's constraints — ground conditions, access, and planning context.
- Step 02
Concept design
Spatial arrangement and building form are developed for your review, with structural feasibility tested alongside.
- Step 03
Developed design
Structural system, member sizing, and material specification are resolved and coordinated with services.
- Step 04
Approval drawings
The submission set is prepared for county approval.
- Step 05
Construction drawings
Fully detailed drawings and schedules are issued for tender and construction.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Do you handle county approval submissions?
Yes. We prepare the drawing set to the standard required for submission to the relevant county authority and support the approval process through to consent.
Can you work from an architect's existing drawings?
Yes. We regularly provide structural design against a third-party architectural scheme, and will flag any structural implications of the proposed form before we proceed.
Do you design in structural steel as well as concrete?
Yes — both reinforced concrete and structural steel, selected on the basis of span, programme, and cost for your specific project rather than a default preference.
